Rajith Perera

Hi, I’m Rajith Akalanka Perera, a sustainable materials researcher in Turku, Finland who tackles environmental challenges through chemistry, data and design.

My work links photochromic minerals, DFT/HPC modelling, chemometrics and bench-scale synthesis to engineer resource-efficient materials for water purification and environmental sensing. At the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka, I mapped heavy-metal pathways behind CKDu and co-developed activated-carbon/chitosan adsorbents. Currently, with the Intelligent Materials Chemistry (IMC) Group at the University of Turku, I design, synthesise and characterise hackmanite and other photochromic functional materials, guided by circular-economy and sustainability principles.
