Autofiction; Autobiography; Life writing; Contemporary American literature; Rhetorical theory of narrative; Metamodernism; Fictionality
I am a doctoral researcher in comparative literature. My thesis focuses on autofictional literature through the lenses of rhetorical narrative theory, metamodernism and the concept of the story economy. In my master's thesis (2020) I also focused on autofiction as a boundary-breaking way of reading and writing. My PhD journey started in the beginning of 2024, and I wish to delve deeper into the phenomenon of autobiographical writing and the reasons for its popularity in the 21st century.
Fun fact: Outside of the academia, I am an avid basketball coach.
The working title of my doctoral thesis is Does it always have to be personal? Autofictional writing in the riptides of the story economy. The theoretical basis of my research is built on rhetorical narrative theory, metamodernism and the concept of the story economy. Through this lens I will analyse the works of four different Anglo-American authors: Dave Eggers, Bret Easton Ellis, Maggie Nelson and Rachel Cusk. The thesis will be written in the form of a monography.
In addition to autofiction I am also interested in contemporary Anglo-American literature in general, metamodernism or postpostmodernism, New Sincerity and the works of David Foster Wallace.
