Circular economy. Challenging waste streams. Thermal conversion. Emissions. Ash. LCA. Industrial symbiosis.

I have been a Professor (tenured) of Circular Economy at University of Turku since 2025. I studied chemical engineering with a focus on inorganic chemistry at Åbo Akademi University from 2003-2013. I got my PhD in 2013. 2015-2018 I was an Academy of Finland doctoral researcher and 2019-2024 I was an Academy of Finland Research Fellow at ÅA, from 2022 at UTU. Research visits to University of Pisa, Northwestern University and Technical University of Denmark.

My current research is related to industrial symbiosis, circular ecosystems, LCA, digitalization in circular economy, material flows and techno-economic assessment. Currently around 20 industrial partners in the research. Previously my research has been related to thermal conversion (pyrolysis, gasification, combustion) both on the experimental and computational level, using several mathematical modeling tools.

University teaching in a range of different topics including chemistry, chemical engineering, mathematics, energy technology, life cycle assessment, materials technology, combustion, inorganic chemistry, corrosion of metals, environmental engineering, hydrogen production, industrial symbiosis, operations management, product development, decision making. Currently responsible for the following university courses: Material flows and circular economy, Sustainable decision making, Industrial symbiosis, Circular economy in the maritime cluster and co-responsible for Materials and environment and Life-cycle management of materials.
