Professor Timo Knuutila is a proficient computer scientist, software engineer and educator with over 30 years of experience. His specialities include algorithms, optimization, machine learning and theory of automata. Knuutila has published ca. 60 internationally reviewed scientific articles,
directed 9 doctoral theses and over 50 master's theses
in the areas of computer science and software engineering.
He has been the responsible leader of ca. 15 externally funded research and education projects
and a leading researcher in several other research projects.
The main areas of the courses I have lectured have been
(1) programming languages and software engineering and
(2) artificial intelligence.
The first area includes courses like Declarative programming, Logic programming, Object-oriented
programming, Software engineering for global enterprises, Production planning and optimization, and
Programming language concepts, while the second one consists of Artificial intelligence, Data
mining, Machine learning, and Deep learning. Since the middle of the 1990’s majority of my teaching
has been given in English.
