Biography

Currently I work as an assistant professor of History of Architecture and Architectural Conservation at Aalto University (Espoo, Finland).

I graduated from the Helsinki University of Technology in 2009 (MSc in Architecture) and from the University of Turku in 2013 (MA in History). I defended my doctoral thesis at the University of Turku in 2017.

Before my academic career I worked as a researcher in two museums and as a planner in architectural office.

Research

My research interests include themes around material culture, historical GIS, building archaeology, architecture and urban space from seventeenth- to ninteenth-centuries.

I'm leading the project (from 1/2020) Medieval timber structures in Finland: The process of construction and structural innovations of the roof structures in medieval stone churches funded by Finnish Cultural Foundation.

Besides my research activities I have published one children's book and made several scholarly and non-scholarly graphic design projects and illustrations for museums and book publishers.

Teaching

I teach occasionally at the University of Turku (Dept. of History).
