Abstract
Many developing countries are in the process of transforming from information societies that consume information technologies into knowledge economies that are capable of creating technologies. Key domains for development include research capacities in business informatics and computer science. Currently, the lack of research culture in technology fields slows down the development of innovative and independent technologists and technology researchers. To increase postgraduate level business informatics education, and to promote research activities, we have launched a doctoral level research training unit between the College of Business Education (CBE), Tanzania and the University of Eastern Finland (UEF). This paper explains the experiences from the first one and half years of running the unit.
