Professor Olof Solin is a foundational figure in radiochemistry and PET tracer development, with a career spanning over five decades at the intersection of experimental physics, cyclotron-based radionuclide production, and molecular imaging. Originally trained as a physicist at Åbo Akademi University in Finland, his early work on high-energy particle interactions and radionuclide production established the scientific framework for his later pioneering contributions to nuclear medicine.
Since 2003, Professor Solin has served as the Professor of Radiochemistry at University of Turku in Finland. His research has been instrumental in advancing PET radiochemistry infrastructure both in Finland and internationally, particularly through innovations in fluorine-18 labeling methodologies and the production of positron-emitting radionuclides. As a leader in translational science, he has successfully bridged the gap between the targetry and the clinic, serving as Principal Investigator in numerous academic projects and in projects with pharmaceutical partners. His academic legacy is marked by the supervision of twenty doctoral dissertations and his extensive service as an evaluator for international research councils and leading journals in the field.
