Tiivistelmä
This chapter explores sustainable development in the cruise industry from the perspective of shipbuilding. It begins with a description of the shipbuilding process, which, from one ship newbuild project to another, includes the design of various new concepts and solutions. Thereafter, the chapter discuss the perspectives of different network actors on sustainability enhancement, ranging from small shipbuilding material suppliers to international cruise line customers. Despite the generally shared interest in developing increasingly environmentally friendly ships, the empirical data show that the objectives and expectations are somewhat divergent, which complicates collective sustainability enhancement in shipbuilding. This chapter uncovers these complexities hindering the progress of the sustainability transition, concluding with a discussion of the potential pathways to overcome such obstacles and highlighting the importance of advanced multi-actor collaboration in the cruise industry.
