Tiivistelmä

In Finland, discussions on school bullying began in the 1980s, alongside the first academic studies on the topic. Trend data on bullying has been collected at the national level since the 1990s, initially through surveys in middle and secondary schools and later extended to elementary schools. Extensive research on bullying has been conducted in Finland. Several initiatives to prevent bullying have been put forth, and intervention development and evaluation have taken place. The best-known evidence-based intervention is the KiVa anti-bullying program, which is widely implemented both in Finland and internationally. Finnish schools are mandated to have an action plan in place to protect students from bullying, as well as from other forms of violence and harassment.
