The future of work is addressed from several different angles. By building on recent literature (academic publications, reports, and other future-related material), the book creates a way to think about futures of work through conceptual space that is constituted by dimensions and models of different aspects of work. What is located in this conceptual space are ‘work arrangements’, which can refer to specific jobs, professions, organizational structures, or any aspect of work that can be characterized along various dimensions.
These dimensions include where work happens, how technology integrates with human labor, or how it relates to personal identity – among other things these we will identify throughout the book.
The authors discuss how areas in this space can be perceived and what are the forces that drive changes in locations of working arrangements in the space. In this way, we can understand how these forces drive changes in working arrangements now and in the future.
