This study explores co-evolution within maritime
industry between multiple levels through collective international opportunity
recognition. The research stems from the global level challenges that pressure
maritime industry to develop as a whole and as individual organizations. The
study builds an integrated theoretical framework based on the concept of
collective international opportunity recognition (Mainela 2012), institutional
logics perspective (Thornton et al. 2012), and co-evolutionary view of industry
development (Breslin 2016; Lewin & Volberda 1999). The research will be implemented
as a qualitative study following the causal layered analysis (CLA) framework.
The study will contribute to our understanding of shared opportunity
recognition as a mechanism of co-evolutionary institutional change. This
expands our understanding of industry wide change and the mechanisms though
which the change takes place between multiple levels. We will also provide
insights for maritime industry actors and managers on the future trajectories
of the industry as well as provide insights to inter-organizational
co-operation.
