Tiivistelmä

Since recent studies reported that levels of digital competence among Europeans are still insufficient, this paper aims to clarify how digital competence can be conceptualized when applied in the management context. Based on the DigComp framework, a three-dimensional model with 19 areas of digital competence, encompassing technological knowledge, soft skills, and e-leadership skills, is proposed. This model is the result of a systematic literature review and content analysis of 61 frameworks of digital competence, soft skills, and e-leadership. From a theoretical perspective, the paper extends prior research on digital competence by focusing on the managerial context through integrating isolated areas such as soft skills and e-leadership. From a managerial perspective, the paper suggests a model that can help organizations create tools to assess and monitor current levels of manager’s digital competence and to develop appropriate training programmes.
