Tiivistelmä

This chapter explores the application of virtual reality (VR) environments and interactive storytelling in teaching complex subjects like quantum physics. Through two case studies, it demonstrates how immersive VR technology can visualize quantum phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement, making these abstract concepts more accessible and engaging for learners. By integrating numerical simulations of quantum systems with gamification and user-cantered design, the chapter creates a learning experience that enhances both comprehension and retention. It also addresses the design challenges associated with creating meaningful interactive experiences that cater to diverse learning preferences. Game environments are built to be safe spaces for error detection and correction, in addition to learning about user behaviors. By creating custom experiences based on individual needs and preferences, the data collected from the user interactions can be used in improving design practices. The adaptability of VR environments enables intuitive interactions, thus promoting deeper understanding of scientific concepts. Gamified learning in this context motivates learners to explore complex systems in a hands-on, experiential manner, reinforcing key principles through gameplay. The interdisciplinary approach highlights the convergence of game design, quantum physics, and immersive technology, offering insights into how extended reality (XR) can be applied in education and training.
