The article studies the religious orders and their members in the Roman obedience of the Great Western Schism. The primary data of the analysis are the papal copybooks of the first years of Boniface IX’s papacy. Social Network Analysis is used to explore the network of executors of papal appointment letters and the involvement of the monastic and mendicant orders in this network. The article demonstrates that especially among the executors, the prominence of the members of traditional monastic orders, above all the Benedictines and Cistercians, is striking, which shows the continuous relevance and power of these orders. There are also indications that monastic executors could play an important role in contested regions, as we demonstrate with the example from the diocese of Liège. Some abbots had personal connections to curia, which explains their prominence as executors.
