The study discusses the ethnic roots of John Morton, the Signer (1725-1777). Methods from historical sciences and genetic genealogy are adapted.  The main result is that Morton's genetic roots are of happlotype N, which is typical for males  from Eastern parts of Finland. His great grandfather Mårten Mårtensson (1607-1706) moved to Central Sweden, and in 1654 to the colony called New Sweden in the Delaware.
