Abstract

Finland is a mainly Lutheran society, but one that has rich grassroots religious pluralism. There are ca. 150 other religions in the country, including several New Religious Movements. Regarding legislation, the Lutheran and Orthodox Churches have their specific Acts, whereas other religious organisations follow the Religious Freedom Act, renewed in 2003, or the Associations Act. The ar-ticle also highlights with a two cases the social and political position of new religious movements in the country.
