In recent decades, and in particular as a result of global climate change, the significance of the Arctic has radically shifted, from a remote periphery to a region of intensifying political and academic interest and of conflicting interests. The Arctic Contested brings together contributions from several different disciplines on the changing situation and status of the Arctic, mainly from Nordic and Canadian perspectives. Drawing in particular from political science and law, considerations of national and international politics and law as they impact on Arctic governance, communications and indigenous rights, but also on perceptions and experiences of the North in literature and the arts, this book offers a platform for cross-disciplinary dialogue, for the Arctic is too multi-faceted and complex for any one discipline or approach adequately to encompass.
