Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) exposes patients to 100% oxygen that is pressurized two–three times higher than air pressure.1 The HBOT increases partial oxygen pressure in arterial blood over 1000 mmHg, which facilitates the delivery of oxygen to hypoxic tissues. HBOT has widely been applied in medical practice because it has been shown to improve wound healing and has both bacteriostatic and bactericidal properties.1 The primary objective of this systematic review is to evaluate the quality of the existing literature regarding the use of HBOT in the neoadjuvant and or adjuvant settings for facial plastic and reconstructive surgery procedures.
