Abstract
The cleavage of phosphodiester bonds within hairpin loops was studied in buffer solutions, in the presence and absence of metal ion catalysts. The aim of the work is to study the effect of a secondary structure on the inherent reactivity of phosphodiester bonds, and on the ability of metal ion based catalysts to enhance the cleavage.
