Tiivistelmä
 Keypoints

  • We studied the tolerability of balloon Eustachian tuboplasty (BET) under monitored anaesthesia care (MAC) using two different balloon dilation catheters, Spiggle & Theis TubaVent and Spiggle & Theis TubaVent short, in adult patients.
  • For unilateral operations, lidocaine‐prilocaine cream anaesthetised the Eustachian tube (ET) lumen. For bilateral operations, we randomised the ETs so that one side received lidocaine‐prilocaine cream and the other cocaine‐adrenaline solution soaked in a cotton pad.
  • After the operation, the patients answered a questionnaire about pain and discomfort during and after BET and whether they would choose MAC instead of general anaesthesia again in case of reoperation.
  • No differences in pain or discomfort appeared between different BET devices.
  • No differences in pain or discomfort emerged between the two local anaesthesia methods.
