RPID5175803. As these bursts are due to propagating shock waves, driven by coronal mass ejections, they can be followed to near-Earth distances and can be used to predict the arrival times of geo-effective disturbances. Radio type IV bursts, on the other hand, are usually due to moving magnetic structures in the low corona and trapped particles form at least part of the emission. The observed directivity of type IV emission may also be used for space weather purposes.
