This chapter discusses how pop singer Alma has become one the most promising Finnish artists in the field of global pop. We offer a short historical overview of Finnish women artists and an audiovisual music video analysis of “Dye My Hair” (2016), and argue that Alma’s success is connected to the timeliness of her sound, look, performance, and the “alternative femininity” constructed in her star persona, which speaks to both global and local audiences. The chapter contributes to music video research incorporating current intersectional feminist theory, as well as broader Finnish popular music studies.
