Tiivistelmä

Digital technologies are
altering the ways in which research can be done in open collaboration and the
connections of technology, development of joint research methods, open data,
and public-private partnership supported throughout the entire research cycle.
Despite the emerging possibilities of digital technologies, the basis of
university research will always be the researchers conducting research.
Universities have a pivotal role to play in making open science practices and
skills a natural part of the day-to-day research activities e.g. through
policies and research infrastructure choices.

In the University of Turku
(UTU), we think that we are just a facilitator in the crusade for Open Science
and therefore we wanted to co-write our new Open Research Cycle Policy together
with the most crucial group, our researchers. We invited all of our researchers
to contribute and opened the policy planning for co-creating in October 2017 on
the Eduuni Wiki platform. This meant that our researchers were able to co-write,
comment and share ideas on the policy from the very beginning.

The aim of this presentation is
to contribute to the discussion of preparing relevant policies for Open science
in order to develop sufficient research management support for the researchers
and their collaborators throughout the research cycle starting already from the
ideas and novel approaches. Discussion is based on the case study of the UTU
Open Research Cycle Policy co-planning and it intends to share ‘lessons
learned’ and innovative ways of developing research management.
