Abstract

The thirst for knowledge about the mystery of the child was in the air
at the turn of the twentieth century. However, the child sciences were
not the only venue used to define and make (cf. Castañeda 2002) the
child during the nineteenth century. Another simultaneous field to
explain and understand the uniqueness of childhood was fiction.
