Finland has a population of around 5.5 million. Population increasing is mainly
based on net immigration in last years. The offi cial languages are Finnish (spoken
by 91%) and Swedish (spoken by 5.4%). Furthermore, Sámi (in Lapland) is the
mother tongue of around 1700 people, and this language is also used in Sweden
and Norway in the Lapland area. The major religions in Finland are Lutheran
(73.3 %) and Orthodox Christianity (around 1.1%). (Statistic Finland, 2016.) In
practice, Finnish so ciety is fairly secularized.
