Soft play is a form of cheating where players deliberately play easy against each other. Along with other forms of cheating it is undesirable in e-sports tournaments, but it can also ruin the game for other players in more casual multiplayer environments. In this paper, we evaluate different methods for detecting the sub-set of players engaging in soft play in shooter games using data generated with synthetic players. These methods are used when analysing the hit matrix of a single round of the game.
