In this contribution, a project for instruction in German regional studies ('Landeskunde') ist presented. The project concerns different areas of research in German culinary culture in combination with the German language. In the fifteen areas of research presented here, food and its function are explored in different contexts including, among others, literature, business, phraseologisms and German history. The areas can be expanded as desired, and they will also enable interdisciplinary explorations. In addition to the culinary culture in Germany, a similar study is also possible for Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The results for individual countries could be compared in order to establish their differences. The project presented here was primarily designed for instruction in German as a foreign language. Suggestions for the organization and practical implementation of the project will be made on both the national and international level. The suggestions are in each case distributed over one semester with fourteen weekly hours. The students could explore individual areas of research according to their interests and write their seminar or MA papers on them. For instance, for a student with an interest in phraseology, the research area of 'food in phraseologisms' would be suitable. The results could even be useful in foreign companies which cooperate with German partners, and are therefore willing to expand their knowledge of German culinary cultur.
