Abstract

Using behavioral strategy paradigms, we analyze and illustrate how the interplay between individual and organizational level factors affects mergers and acquisitions (M&A) performance. In our methodological approach, we depart from and adopt the dataset of the recent multidisciplinary review of Gomes et al., (2013) in conducting our content analysis. Based on our analysis, we provide a categorization of pre- and post- acquisition critical success factors using behavioral strategy paradigms. Further, we show the upward, downward, and both ways interplay within and across prior identified M&A critical success factors. This work contributes to the ongoing cross-fertilization debate and establishes a foundation for the theoretical importance of behavioral strategy studies and multilevel approach in M&A performance.
