Abstract

The purpose of this study was to design a new scenario of using CAS in the mathematics classroom when introducing a new topic. A worksheet for solving irrational equations was created with the goal in mind that students discover and learn new material on their own  while working in pairs using CAS. Comparing their own answers with the CAS answers turned out to be an initiator of a rich mathematics discussion between pairs of students. Both students and teachers agreed that the lesson was successful and would have this kind of lessons more often if the appropriate teaching materials were available.
