This article discusses the Finnish pianist-composer Selim Palmgren's piano concerti in the context of the Romantic and Early Modern piano concerto. The center of attention is the style of the concerti, on one hand, and the relationship between the soloist and orchestra, on the other. Although the concerti are considered Romantic, they are located at the intersection of different traditions.
