Tiivistelmä

The Kornik Arboretum belongs to the Institute of Dendrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The woody flora of Japan, Korea, China and North America are well represented in the collection. The number of species and varieties amounts to about 3 500.

In the late 18th century, a park in the French style was established. In 1826-1860, Count Tytus Dzialynski reconstructed the park in the landscape style. He started the introduction of exotic trees and shrubs not known at that time in Poland. This was then the richest dendrological collection in Poland and one of the richest in Europe.

The area of the Arboretum has been expanded after the 2nd World War. New dendrological collections were also established on the other side of Lake Kornickie. Trees and shrubs are the subject of research cunducted by the Institute of Dendrology. These are studies in the field of plant systematics, acclimatization, physiology and genetics.
