This paper asks how emotion can influence intercultural organisational dialogue during post-acquisition integration. Through discussing relevant fields of theory, a framework of emotion in intercultural integration dialogue is proposed. The framework is influenced by literature on post-acquisition integration strategy, dialogue as an enabler of organisational change, negotiation as an instance of dialogue, and social interaction as a context for negotiation as well as a platform for emotion expression and interpretation. To the authors’ knowledge, this paper is one of the first to draw a connection between literature on emotion and negotiation to pinpoint the processes through which emotion can influence post-acquisition integration dialogue. The proposed framework enables future academic research in narrowing down the key paths through which emotion can influence integration dialogue. The framework also allows practitioners to better understand the variety of means through which emotion can influence integration and thus better prepare for affective influences in implementation.
