Abstract
Thirty-eight species of hepatics and 32 species of mosses are reported from Hunan Province of China, 32 hepatics and 13 mosses for the first time. A total of 285 species of mosses, 121 species of hepatics, and 4 species of hornworts are known from Hunan. The general frequency of species is estimated by using a 7-degree scale, and the same is done for the three site classes, into which the collecting localities are grouped. Most of the species in Hunan are rare or rather rare. The Bioclimatic Zonal System is employed when giving the distributions of bryophytes in Hunan. The floristic elements of E and SE Asian bryophytes are discussed, and the present set of taxa is divided between these flora elements. Cephalozia hamatiloba Steph. subsp. siamensis (N. Kitag.) Vána and Ptychomitrium gardneri Lesq. var. angustifolium (Nog.) T. Cao are new combinations.
