This paper attempts to explore Sigmund Freud’s relationship to music. A brief history is provided, and the contextual elements explored. Various theorists of the time will be discussed, and the zeitgeist of the times will be examined. It is hoped that this paper will lend some insight into these issues and clarify Freud’s relationship to music.
