Abstract

Throughout the long history of ports, there have always been both negative and positive impacts and values. Values can usually be classified based on their socioeconomic importance considerable, non-socioeconomic or soft values. Negative impacts have mostly been related to environmental impacts, land use, traffic and pollution. Positive impacts are also quite remarkable for the region. Benefits include economic benefits, employment and other direct and indirect catalysts, which help the surrounding business, enterprises and citizens. Ports may also have other values, like soft values. Soft values have gained a more and more important role in recent times.
