FDOPA is a powerful tool to diagnose and detect neuroendocrine tumors (NET) for planning and monitoring of surgical and oncological therapies. Especially pheochromocytomas, paragangliomas and medullary thyroid cancer are amenable to FDOPA imaging because of high specific uptake of this amino acid analogue and excellent tumor-to-background contrast at PET/CT.
