Recently we have succeeded to isolate a new nepo-type virus from a reverted blackcurrant, We have developed an immunocapture-reverse transcriptase-PCR (IC-RT-PCR) method to detect the virus, and have demonstrated that the virus is associated both with the E and R forms of reversion disease originating from Scandinavia, Scotland and New Zealand, Due to its origin and its consistent association with the different forms of reversion, but not with any other virus diseases of Ribes tested, we refer to the virus as Blackcurrant reversion associated virus (BRAV).
