Photogalvanic spectrometry is shown to be a very sensitive method for monitoring the initial steps of electrodeposition of conductive polymers on ITO surface. On the umnodified or mechanically scratched surface the first deposition step of poly(3-methylthiophene) is the precipitation of highly conjugated polymer. If the ITO surface is modified by bonding bithienyl covalently, the polymerization seems to continue by extending the length of surface-bound oligomers.
