The chapter discusses the history of postorder marketing and business from the late 19th century to the late 1980s in Finland. The contexts include early marketing strategies and theories, historical examples and how Finland changed from mainly agricultural country to a (post-)modern, increasingly urban consumer society.

It is based on primary sources, as well as research literature, constructing a concise history never written on the same level.
