Abstract

The concept of visioning has recently gained attention in business network studies on strategizing and innovation management, yet empirical research on network visioning is scarce. To create understanding of how network actors are visioning for futures or how they could be assisted in this visioning, we turned to futures research, which has proposed networked foresight as an approach to enhance visioning in networks. The purpose of this study is to develop methods for networked foresight in order to facilitate visioning between business partners aiming for radical innovation. The study combines methods from futures research to those available in network studies and tests their applicability in a strategic net targeting a major innovation: autonomous shipping. The paper adds to futures research, where refined methodological tools for the study of networked foresight are limited and puts forward the concept of networked foresight for advancing future oriented research in business networks.
