Tiivistelmä

The present article is set to present some relevant aspects of the teaching of Romanian language at the University of Turku, Finland. Teaching supposes the use of certain units and it is at this occasion that we are focusing on key-points that occur in the teaching unit. Aside of more traditional methods, more recent approaches have been tested and implemented, all under the umbrella of the so called "action based teaching". Media, literature and culture elements are integrated in class. Also, bilingual literary texts have been used in an attempt to increase the personal or emotional involvement of the students, by encouraging them to write daily in a course diary or to come up, at the end of the whole course, with a more extensive essay based on their learning experience in class, and to interact and exchange ideas with classmates on a supervised e-platform. The article does not imply new or revolutionary teaching methods are being put in place; however, the results are at a large extent compelling in the context of the Finnish tertiary education. Finnish students are very skilled in learning foreign languages and orienting the teaching towards practice, enhanced intercultural communication and technology can only provide them with even more tools for their quest. The composite classical-virtual learning environment can only benefit them.
