Different forms, or possibly strains, with symptoms varying from mild to very severe are known to occur in reversion disease. As yet, the molecular determinants of the different disease phenotypes have not been established. We have started the comparison of nine BRV isolates originating from six countries by comparing the 3' non-translated region (1360 nt) nucleotide sequences of their RNA2 components. Sequence analysis has indicated about 94-99% identity between the nine analysed isolates, with differences only in certain nucleotide positions.
