Tiivistelmä
The presented project aims at recognising the structural and stratigraphical control over the mineral deposits in southern part of the Perapohja belt in northern Finland by the means of structural analysis and 4D modelling. Variations in the layer thicknesses of the supracrustal rock units could be used for recognition of normal faults that acted as pathways for mineralising fluids. Interpretations are based on large datasets of structural and lithological observations, airborne geophysical surveys, seismic data and drill core data. Furthermore, the work also aims at developing further the preliminary geological correlations across the national border between Finland and Sweden. Initial structural analysis suggests the area can be divided into eastern and western domains based on the contrasting attitudes of the structural elements. The style of folding is shown to be of the parallel type as shown by folding associated with thrust and back-thrust surfaces. Preliminary re-evaluation of the earlier stratigraphical interpretations indicates variation in the level of the original basin floor, tentatively attributed to normal faulting. As the basin history and chronological order of events also gets better constrained, further work can be carried out to relate these events to a larger scale terrane assembly.
