Functioning society is very dependent on transport chains and transport infrastructure enabling provision of the necessary inputs e.g. for food supply, energy, health care and emergency services, communication technology as well as foreign trade. However, analysis on the possible vulnerabilities of these transport chains and their meaning for the society at national level is lacking. This is rather surprising, considering the dependency of the society on trade and logistics on one hand and the potential vulnerability of the logistic chains on the other. In this paper our aim is to define critical industries in Finland and assess the dependency of these industries on transport infrastructure especially in terms of import and export dependency. We use the concept of critical infrastructure (CI) and discuss the potential vulnerabilities of the critical industries.
