TiivistelmäThe aim of this research project is to investigate the spaces and practices of caring for animals. For this purpose, I will develop a new
concept, the landscape of interspecies care, as a tool for examining the varying forms of everyday care given to animals in specific
spatial contexts. The contexts explored involve animals at ‘work’ in different settings, as ‘rescued’, and as companions. My interest is in
the ways in which the conceptual boundary between humans and other animals as well as the cultural categorization of animals are
worked within everyday practices, and how these are co-produced by humans as well as the animals themselves. The main research
questions are: How is the human–animal boundary worked in encounters of interspecies care? How are landscapes of interspecies care
produced in different spaces involving human–animal relations? Theoretically, the aim of the project is to bring together two recently
emerged fields within human geography: the new animal geography and the diverse field of care geographies. The project will also
advance public understanding of the different aspects of living with animals and treating them.
