TiivistelmäArtificial intelligence (AI) is here to stay, with transformative impact across industries. Generative AI has sparked widespread interest in large language models (LLMs) but not without elevated concerns and criticism. To benefit from breakthrough technologies such as LLMs, organisations must address fundamental questions on accountability, reliability and security. Consequently, ethical and regulatory aspects are becoming intertwined with operational ones. For the EU to strengthen its role as the global leader in trustworthy AI, experts on ethical and sustainable use of AI are urgently needed in public, private and third sector organisations across member states. This interdisciplinary expertise is not readily available through traditional doctoral training frameworks. Moreover, the needs of the job market keep evolving. New roles such as green coders and prompt engineers have already emerged, and professionals in the field must adapt to the changing demands. Human-Centric Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Future (HAIF) doctoral programme addresses the shortage of AI professionals by training doctoral candidates (DCs) with future-proof skill sets. In addition to their respective research topics, HAIF DCs will develop career-boosting transferable skills and interdisciplinary thinking. They will also gain a supportive, international and cross-sectoral network for building impactful careers in academia or industry.
