Mental Health Nursing Science
I’m working as a University Lecturer at the Department of Nursing Science. I have a doctoral degree in health science and I'm a registered nurse. I held the title of Adjunct Professor (Docent). I'm head of the research programme and minor subject 'Mental Health Nursing Science' at the Department. I supervise bachelor, master and doctoral students. In addition, I'm a mentor at the Post doc- programme at the Department, in which I'm also acting as a coordinator.
My current main research focuses on developing and testing a new method for violence risk management in psychiatric hospital care, to increase patient engagement, self-determination and decrease violent incidents and use of coercive methods (DASA-P, eDASA APP FI- and DASA-YEV projects).
Additionally, I'm interested in the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on people's mental health and how they perceived restrictions during the pandemic period. I'm also involved in a project aiming to promote the mental health of asylum seekers and refugees, Re-Define.
I'm part of the European network COST Action FOSTREN focusing on coercive methods in mental health settings and how to implement coercion reduction programs in the most effective ways. I'm acting as a Science Communication Manager for that network and I'm a core group member of the Action. My other international roles include being a board member of the EViPRG (European Violence in Psychiatry Research Group) and the chair of Forensic Mental Health Nurses SIG at the IAFMHS (International Association for Forensic Mental Health Services). I'm an Academic Editor for the journal Perspectives in Psychiatric Care and an Editorial Board Member for the International Journal of Forensic Mental Health Services.
I have an honorary position as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Centre for Forensic Behavioural Sciences, Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.
My research focuses on psychiatric nursing and mental health care. More spesifically, I'm interested in evidence-based practice, implementation science, reducing coercion in care, violence risk assessment, violence prevention and management.
