Biography

I am a physical geographer with a long career as the researcher of the sustainability of the agricultural environments experienced also as the university teacher of the agri-food issues, physical and regional geography and geoinformatics. I have been leading numerous national and international research projects e.g., on the visual monitoring of the agricultural landscapes (Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry: MYTVAS I, II, III 1996-2014); rural-urban land use preferences (Helsinki University Environmental Research 2003-2006); the livelihood security in the changing socio-economic environments in India (Academy of Finland 2009-2014); the integrated coastal land use planning in Finland and Estonia (EU Interreg Central Baltic Programme 2016-2019) and the environmental sustainability of urban agriculture as the visiting scholar of Fudan University, in 2019/2020 in Shanghai. Currently, I am keenly involved in the security of supply of the food chain (EAKR 2021-2023) and stormwater management (Ministry of the Environment 2021-2022) related projects as the project specialist at the Pyhäjärvi Institute, Eura.
