2001-2012 I secured funding from the Research Council of Finland for various researcher positions allowing me to strengthen my expertise as a researcher. I have been acting as a lecturer for some times in between these research-ortiented positions

Tutkimus
I originally was fascinated by evolutionary ecological questions, wondering how the ubiquitous variation we see in nature is maintained. As many in this field, my intererest widened to inlude population ecological and conservation biological questions on wildlife, where in recent years the explicit study of the social dimension (using surveys) means I also study humans.
Opetus
My undergraduate teaching focuses on general and transferable skills for students in Biology (Professional Development), teaching novice how to work in R and teaching fundamental concepts in evolutionary biology. Until 2025, I was for many years invovled in doctoral education
