Hanna Mäkinen is Senior Researcher at the Pan-European Institute (PEI). She holds Master of Arts in General History, Political Science and Contemporary History from the University of Turku. She has been working in various research and administrative positions at PEI since 2008, participated in several research projects and published articles on her research topics. Hanna's research interests include Russia's social development from the perspective of the country's internal stability and its effects on Finland's security environment, and, more generally, the interaction between security and social issues. She has previously studied, among other things, the use of social media in Russian anti-war activism, the security-based control of foreign investments in Finland, and the political risk of foreign investments in Russian energy and maritime industries. In addition, she has specialised in the utilization of social media materials in the study of social phenomena.
